Portuguese Desserts

Portuguese gastronomy is full of delicious desserts, prepared with simple and economical ingredients. Most of the traditional Portuguese sweets were born in convents, where nuns and monks started to cook with the sugar they received. This is the case of the famous Pastel de Nata, born in the Belém district of Lisbon, in the Hieronymites monastery.
