Pão de Ló

This very fluffy cake, nicknamed "sponge cake", is a real delight. With only 3 basic ingredients, it is very easy and quick to make.

190 grams
Sugar
130 grams
Orange

Preparation steps

  • Step 1 : Put all the Eggs into a high-sided bowl and add Orange zest. Beat the eggs with an electric whisk, adding the Sugar little by little. Beat for at least 5 minutes: the mixture should triple in volume and be very airy.
  • Step 2 : Mix the Baking powder with the Flour and add it very gently to the egg/sugar mixture. It is best to sift the flour and add it gradually.
  • Step 3 : Squeeze the Orange and pour about 30 milliliters of juice into the mixture. Mix very gently.
  • Step 4 : Pour the mixture into a buttered cake form. Traditionally, we use a high-sided form (about 10cm) with a chimney in the middle (to make a hole).
  • Step 5 : Put in the oven for about 30 minutes at 180°C.
