Traditionally served at Christmas, rabanadas are the Portuguese version of French toast.

Ingredients

Bread

Milk
50 centiliters
Sugar
50 grams
Eggs

Lemon zest
1
Cinnamon stick
1
Cinnamon powder
3 teaspoons

Preparation steps

  • Step 1 : Cut the Bread into slices. It is best to use a 2 or 3 day old bread.
  • Step 2 : Put the Lemon zests, Cinnamon stick and Sugar in the Milk. Put over low heat for 5 minutes.
  • Step 3 : Beat the Eggs in a deep dish.
  • Step 4 : Dip each slice of Bread in the Milk (let it absorb a little) then in the beaten Eggs on both sides.
  • Step 5 : Place in hot oil and brown on both sides.
  • Step 6 : Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with powdered Sugar/Cinnamon powder mixture.
