Aveiro is a unique city. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, it attracts more and more tourists thanks to its long sandy beaches but also its canals and its "Art Nouveau" style buildings.

Its network of canals, for which it is eternally compared to Venice, is well developed and always very active. To discover it, you can walk along it, or choose to take a "Moliceiro". This typical and very colorful boat was once used to harvest seaweed, which was used as fertilizer. Nowadays, they allow you to discover the city from another point of view, walking on the water. Guides are on board to tell visitors about the history of Aveiro and show them the main buildings of the city.

Among all these canals, we can distinguish three main ones. The central canal is, as its name indicates, the main canal of the city. It crosses the city center and allows to admire the magnificent buildings of "Art Nouveau" architecture.

As for the Canal do Côjo, it used to be lined by numerous mills. It leads to a small lake that used to lead to the factory of the same name: the Fábrica do Côjo. Built in 1774, this imposing building was dedicated to the manufacture of ceramics. Today, it houses Aveiro's congress center.

Finally, the Canal de São Roque connects the fishermen's district of Beira Mar to the city center. There are old salt warehouses and the walk in Moliceiro allows to pass under the "Ponte dos Carcavelos", nicknamed the "Bridge of the lovers".
