Águeda is a small town in the center of Portugal, located near Aveiro and about 1 hour from Porto. Previously in the shadow of the little Venice of Portugal (Aveiro), Águeda has managed to make a place for itself in the hearts of visitors thanks to some very original ideas.

The famous umbrellas of Águeda

If you are on social networks, you have probably already seen pictures of streets covered with a roof of colorful umbrellas. There are now in several countries, including Mexico, Ireland, or France but the concept was born in Águeda.

Since 2011, these installations aim to brighten up the streets and attract the eyes. Known as the "Umbrella Sky Project", this initiative is growing and is renewed every year.

Several hundred umbrellas of all colors bring shade to the shopping streets of the city center. The sun's rays amplify the colors and create a magical and joyful atmosphere in the city.

Águeda, a city full of colors

Before being known for its umbrellas, the city of Águeda had already developed several innovative cultural initiatives. Since 2006, it has been organizing the "AgitÁgueda" festival, which brings together hundreds of artists in July. During this event, the city lives to the rhythm of concerts and other street entertainment.

Street art also has an important place in Águeda where you can admire many colorful paintings and artistic installations, which are regularly replaced.
