The district of Viana do Castelo is the smallest in the country in terms of surface area, but it has just as much beautiful scenery to offer. It is located in the northwest of the country and shares one of its borders with Galicia, a Spanish region. The historical province of which it was once a part is called Minho.
Viana do Castelo is an ideal vacation spot for sports and nature lovers, especially since it is home to part of the country's only National Park: Peneda-Gerês. This immense green and mountainous area is a real paradise for hiking enthusiasts. There are rivers and waterfalls, as well as breathtaking views.
Surfers, on the other hand, will be seduced by the large beaches rocked by the wind, which offer ideal climatic conditions to have beautiful waves.
The accessibility to this district is very easy: thanks to the train, you can quickly reach several big cities, and in particular go from Porto to the city of Viana do Castelo in about 1h15.
