Coimbra District Guide

The district of Coimbra is ideally located: it stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the west, to the foot of the Serra da Estrela - the largest mountain range in the country - in the east. Halfway between Porto and Lisbon, its central location allows you to explore the heart of Portugal.

Thanks to its ocean front, you can enjoy many beaches, including those of the seaside town of Figueira-da-Foz, or others, wilder and more isolated, such as "Praia da Tocha" and "Praia de Mira".

To combine cultural and natural discoveries, you can visit the Ruins of Conimbriga. This archaeological museum allows you to observe the remains of the Roman city that was there and is also the starting point of a hiking trail (Trilho de Rio de Mouros) that will lead you to a waterfall  in the middle of nature.

Of course, it is impossible to write about Coimbra without mentioning the homonymous city and capital of the district, a municipality full of history and famous for its university, its historical buildings and its many green spaces.
